Hi bloggers out there!!
I have a learner in my class whom I SUSPECT might be abusing alcohol and drugs. I have invited his parent who happens to be a single parent. Imagine having to bring up teenage boys nowadays, for that matter alone as a mother. His mother is devastated because she is worried that her son would experience an overdose in the near future. I decided to also interview the boy to try and investigate if he is undergoing any stressful situations.
To my dismay, the boy is denial because he is adamant to say he is a teetoteller and does not abuse drugs at all. He refuses to go for tests, and claims his mother is acusing him like he did to his dad who is presently estranged to the mother. He is accusing the mother of not treating him as her own child. According to the way I view his dilemma, I think he at times think that he is in control of the situation meanwhile he is not. What made me SUSPECT is that he used to be a very actively participating who was neat at all times. Now lately, he has switched into this 'don't care attitude', he is not neat anymore, very passive and seldom sleeps in class.
As an educator who happen to know his track record, having taught him since Grade 10, and presently he is in Grade 12, he worries me a lot. Colleagues, please help me save this soul.
Out for now
